Guess no one could help on that one? :P Well i made it back... just The problem has got worse, it was so bad at one point this afternoon that i didnt think i'd be able to make it on to the motorway, because as soon as i hit 3000 rpm the power just wobbled and acceleration was pitiful. Took it to the Chester dealer who said they would need the car for a few days as the problem is only appearing once the engine is really, really warm (eg an hour of motorway driving). Couldn't leave it with them as i had to return back from holiday. The problem i now have is that on the isle of wight i can't physically drive the car at motorway speeds for an hour, so it is unlikely that i will be able to show the dealer here the problem :( I have no idea if this is related, but my oil consumption issue seems to have got a whole lot worse, i filled up the oil on Sunday, and it used over 1/2 a litre by today (4 days and about 900 miles). Does anyone have any idea on this? Cheers, Matt :)

Thanks for the info! :) I posted about the oil problem in the general discussion board earlier and i'm currently awaiting a reply from Volvo CS. If the power loss could be explained by loss of compression then that is good for my case for getting them to replace the engine. (car is still under guarantee) My girlfriends dad happens to work in a garage just down from my house so if volvo refuse to do anything i can get all the checks you mentioned done anyway. I have however checked the coolant and it looks clean, and there is no gunk under the oil filler cap. Guess it is burning it somewhere. I'm gonna give volvo a chance to pull their finger out first and fix all this stuff! Will keep you posted :)

the car went to the garage today, so before i dropped it off I ran it round the island for 90 minutes to get it really warmed up. The power problem just started to show and i thought 'great, they can now see what i'm talking about!' When i got it to the garage i told them not to switch the engine off as I had just got it all warmed up and the problem was pretty evident now. So what happened? Mechanic came out and switched off the engine! :@ He then test drove it (with me in the car) and commented that he couldn't find anything wrong with it, the response from the service manager was 'sods law'. They said they would take a look anyway, but i know they wont find anything because Chester Volvo said there were no error codes being produced. When i commented about the increased oil consumption they didn't seem to care. This is starting to get stupid now, the local dealer don't seem to be interested in this oil problem at all, i am beginning to think volvo CS have told them not to play it up.

Might sound a bit excessive but you could try to get a video camera running in the car to record the issues that you have?

it's a good thought but i'm not sure how much it would show. I think it would just show me saying 'it's doing it again'!

Haha! I suppose it depends on the quality of the footage but it may be the only way to get Volvo to accept that there's an issue. Good luck!
