How much would i be looking at for just a cat? Can it fail an MOT for rattling in idle? Its just one thing after another!

Can it fail an MOT for rattling in idle? A word of caution, I replaced my cat because I was worried about a blockage in the cat caused by the debris of the cat breaking up!

How much would i be looking at for a new cat? i am not mechanically minded in the slightest but want this car sorted or i am back to a 1.1 Pegeout 206 :(
